Food comes before prayer

الأكْلُ يُسْبِقُ الصَّلاة

alˀaklu yusbiqu ṣ-ṣalāt

This initially astonishing statement is based on a hadith. If the food has already been prepared and the call to prayer is heard, you should still eat first. Otherwise, one would not be able to concentrate on prayer anyway.
